The Ministry of Commerce has defamed the owner of a gas station in Makkah, following a court ruling condemning him for violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law by selling fake fuel, where samples of "Gasoline 95" were subjected to examination at specialized laboratories. The results showed differences in the percentage of octane, so the fuel doesn’t conform to the standard specifications.

The Ministry published a summary of the court ruling issued by the Criminal Court in Makkah, which includes imposing a fine on the offender and defamation by publishing the verdict in two newspapers at his expense.

This comes within the Ministry’s efforts to  monitor and control the fuel stations in all regions of the Kingdom, taking into consideration the protection of consumers and controlling any violations related to the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law, as well as imposing the legal penalties on the violators, which may reach to three-year imprisonment, a fine of up to one million riyals or both, besides defamation by publishing the verdict in two local newspapers at the expense of the offender, also deporting the illegal labors, in addition to preventing the owner of practicing the same trade activity.

MCI urges all consumer to lodge their reports and complaints through MCI Consumer Call Center (1900), or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, or via the Ministry’s website.
