MCI Inspection Teams Seized 360 tons of Counterfeit Rice at a Warehouse in Khamis Mushait

(8990) Fake Rice Bags Confiscated before being Distributed
 
MCI inspection teams seized more than (360) tons of fake rice at a warehouse in Khamis Mushait Governorate. MCI inspectors monitored illegal labors mixing various kinds of poor quality rice and then packing them in bags bearing famous brands, then to be distributed in the markets and to be sold at a high price.

MCI inspection teams raided the warehouse in violation, aided by the security forces, which are participating in the National Campaign (Homeland without Illegal Expats), where they seized (8990) fake rice bags ready for distribution, weighing (40 kg each), totaling 360 tons.

In addition, MCI inspectors seized a number of machines used for sewing the rice bags. The warehouse was immediately shut down, and the owner was summoned by the Ministry for taking the necessary legal procedures.

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment would like to emphasize that it will not hesitate in taking stern measures against the violators, indicating that the penalty may reach to 3-year imprisonment  and a fine of up to one million riyals, in addition to defaming the violator, at his own expense, in the local media and deporting the illegal labors, after the end of the relevant sentence, and ceasing the trade activity as per the related Judgment.

MCI calls on all consumers to lodge their complaints and observation through MCI Consumer Call Center (1900) or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report or through the Ministry's website.
