MCI, Detecting Shops Marketing Medicines and Cosmetics through Misleading Medical Allegations in Hafer Al Batin

​Confiscation of more than 3 thousand packets, Considered a Threat to the Health of Consumers
 
MCI Surveillance Teams monitored the involvement of a number of shops specialized in "Grocery" in Hafer Al Batin, marketing and selling pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, bearing misleading medical allegations, in addition to skin beauty cream used for “Ruqia” (healing by reciting Quran), a number of them are not allowed to be dispensed without a medical prescription, which constitutes a serious risk to the health and safety of consumers. More than 3 thousand packets had been confiscated, and those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the necessary legal procedures against them.
 
The Inspection Teams noted negligence in storing such items and they were exposed to high temperature, the confiscated quantities included: drugs for various symptoms, shampoo contaminated with bacteria, cream, cosmetics of unknown origin, not bearing any commercial data, along with quantities of Zamzam water, stored in ways contrary to the health requirements. All the quantities were confiscated, because they were considered a risk to the health and safety of consumers.
 
MCI had detected, during the last period, a number of grocery shops promoting for corrupted products, bearing misleading medical allegation, where the necessary legal procedures had been taken against them.
 
This comes at a time when MCI continues the Control Rounds on warehouses, markets, shops and all institutions, to ensure their regular work, and the absence of manipulation and fraud practices on consumers, and to stop exploiting the demand for purchase in selling and marketing the corrupted and expired products.
 
MCI stresses that it will not tolerate in the application of the statutory procedures against the violators and those involved in the practice of fraud and counterfeiting, and all that put the health and safety of consumers at risk.
 
The Ministry calls on all the consumers to report their complaints and observations to the Notification Center in the Ministry through the toll-free number 1900.
