The Ministry of Commerce stressed the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations on sales discounts and promotional offers implemented by businesses and electronic stores as follows:
1. A business or an online retailer must apply for a permit before price reductions are announced.
2. The permit must be conspicuously displayed so that customers are able to scan the barcode with a smartphone camera to access information about the business, as well as the types and percentages of discounts.
3. Businesses must comply and give valid, licensed discounts and offers, and they must not mislead or defraud customers or manipulate pricing; otherwise, they will face fines under the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law.
4. The discount percentage must be clearly displayed and communicated to the consumer.
5. Discounted products must have a tag showing the original price and the discounted price.
6. The return and exchange policies must be communicated to the consumer when sales discounts are in effect.
7. All products that qualify for promotional offers must carry the manufacturer's warranty.
8- The consumer must be able to choose a commodity without being constrained by promotions.
9. The rules governing advertising in electronic stores must be followed.
The Ministry continues to oversee sales discounts and promotional offers in all regions of the Kingdom and has urged the general public to report offenses through the “A Commercial Report” App or by calling toll-free 1900.
