For Eliminating the Commercial Fraud Cases

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment organized a workshop on the Electronic Program for Petrol Stations at the Council of Chambers of Commerce, attended by the owners and operators of gas stations and representatives of the National Committee for Petrol Stations.

This workshop aims to make the petrol station owners aware of the new checking and calibration system for the fuel pumps, also to have an idea about the operation mechanism of this e-system, as well as to know the conditions required for registering in this system, besides having a look on the benefits provided by this electronic system to the owners of petrol stations and consumers. This new system will increase the control role on petrol stations through raising the transparency level of the services provided to consumers, and it would eliminate gas mixing and any commercial fraud cases.

MCI Undersecretary for Consumer Protection, Mr. Fahad Al Huzaili, pointed out that this workshop comes within the Ministry's keenness to introduce the new system to those concerned in this sector, especially private laboratories were asked to carry out the calibration and inspection of fuel quality at the petrol stations, after the cooperation and coordination among MCI, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Municipal & Rural Affairs and Ministry of transportation.

H. E. Mr. Al Huzaili added: "We are keen to listen to the queries of those concerned in this sector, as well as to review their observations and remarks on the new electronic system for testing and calibration of fuel pumps, which will contribute to reduce commercial fraud cases”.

During the said workshop, the Ministry presented a visual presentation on the electronic system for petrol stations, which enables those working in the stations to submit an application for electronic testing and calibration of fuel pumps, through easy steps via the following link: fis.mci.gov.sa, where the station can be located through GPS, then the concerned laboratory will visit the station and perform the necessary inspection and tests to ensure the safety of the fuel pumps, in terms of safe meter readings and the quality of fuel provided to consumer. Upon completion of the test and doing the necessary calibration, stickers showing the result of the test will be placed on all fuel pumps at the station. The station owner can obtain the relevant certificate electronically through the system as well.

MCI pointed out that in partnership with the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, this decision will be  implemented gradually by obligating the new stations to inspect and calibrate the fuel pumps, starting from 11 - 8 - 1438H, and make it available and optional to the owners of the existing stations, within the first phase, in order to reach the best results. In the second phase, the new e-system will be applied in a compulsory way on all new and existing stations, whose licenses expire after 1/1/1439 AH.

It is worth mentioned that two weeks ago H.E, MCI Minister, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qassabi, inaugurated the new e-system for checking and calibrating the fuel pumps.
