MCI, Closing a Warehouse involved in Re-dressing Contaminated Sponge Mattresses in Najran

​Confiscations Included 4 thousand pieces of Adulterated Arabic Seats and Pillows
 
As MCI continues its Control Campaigns to reveal and detect adulteration and cheating of the consumers commodities in the commercial and industrial institutions, the Ministry closed a warehouse in Najran, after detecting the labors collecting contaminated sponge from containers and municipalities dump for re-dressing such items and producing adulterated spongy mattresses and pillows to be sold and marketed to consumers as newly made. All the quantities had been confiscated and those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the legal measures against them. 
 
The details go back when the MCI field Inspection Teams suspected a transport vehicle carrying sponge mattresses, after the necessary follow-up, it was detected running towards a warehouse to store them. This led to the discovery of large quantities of mattresses inside the warehouse, some of them were prepared for sale and the others for distribution to the upholstery shops. A plant, belonging to the warehouse, was detected as well used for the assembly and re-dressing. 
 
The seized and confiscated items included: More than 3 thousand sponge mattresses, as well as 1,000 pieces of Arabic seats and pillows.
 
MCI had announced earlier about the implementation of inspection campaigns targeting a number of factories and warehouses in various regions of the Kingdom, which resulted in the detection of labors involved in collecting sponge from the containers and municipality dump, and then they re-coat them to be marketed as imported and new-made.
 
Large quantities of such items were confiscated with the closure of the sites, and the application of the regulations on those involved, and the illegal residents were referred to the concerned authorities. 
 
MCI stresses that it will not tolerate in the application of the statutory measures on the offenders and those involved in the practice of fraud, and all that puts the health and safety of consumers at risk.
 
MCI calls on all the consumers to report their complaints and observations to the Notification Center in the Ministry on the phone No. 1900.
