MCI Detected 15 thousand Counterfeit Commodities for Global Brands in Jeddah Markets

MCI had conducted intensive surveillance rounds during the last period on a number of shops and commercial markets to verify the quality of the products and to combat fraud, and to punish the offenders, where more than 15 thousand fake and counterfeit commodities for famous international brands were detected and seized, including bags, watches, perfumes and cosmetics. Those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the necessary legal procedures against them.
 
The MCI Inspection Teams monitored, during their surveillance rounds, a number of violations, such as not putting the price tag, and not writing the bills in Arabic. The Rules and Regulations had been applied against the violators. At the same time, the MCI Teams did the necessary verification about the consumers` notifications in a number of commercial institutions.
 
The Inspection Rounds conducted by MCI Surveillance Teams included variety of markets, such as Al Sawareekh, Al Khaimah, Al Bawadi Al Sha`abi, Al Shati, Al Shuaibi and Al Murjan Markets, resulted as well in the seizure of a number of software discs not conforming with the specifications and standards, also quantities of electrical items containing dual plugs and electrical extensions, their usage is considered a threat to the safety of consumers.
 
MCI emphasizes that it would not tolerate in applying the statutory and legal procedures against the offenders and those involved in the practice of fraud, and all that put the safety of consumers at risk. 
 
MCI calls on all the consumers to report their complaints and observations to the Notification Center in the Ministry through the toll-free number 1900.
