The Ministry of Commerce has defamed the owner of a store specialized in the trade of auto tires, batteries and oil in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, following a court ruling convicting him of violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law by selling expired auto tires and oil that do not comply with the standard specifications.

The Ministry has published the verdict issued by the Criminal Court in Makkah, including a fine of fifty thousand riyals, closing the violating facility for a month, confiscating and destroying the seized products, and defamation by publishing the verdict in two newspapers at the expense of the violator.

In details, MC inspection teams inspected the said store in Makkah, where they seized expired auto tires offered inside the store, also auto oil that do not comply with the standard specifications. Accordingly the violation was referred to the concerned authorities for taking the legal penalties in accordance with the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law.

The Ministry of Commerce confirms the continuation of addressing those violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law by imposing the legal penalties against them, since such act poses fraud and deception towards the consumers. Notably, the regulations stipulate imposing penalties of up to three-year imprisonment, a fine of up to one million riyals or both, and defamation by publishing the verdict in two newspapers at the expense of the violator, besides deporting the illegal expats from the Kingdom, as well as preventing the owner of practicing the same trade activity.

The Ministry of Commerce urges all consumers to lodge their reports and complaints against any violating establishments through MC Consumer Call Center (1900), or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, or via the Ministry’s website.
