MCI Inspection Teams detected unlicensed plant producing Ramadan dishes and food, unsuitable for human consumption, especially they are packed in primitive ways by illegal labor. The inspectors confiscated all the equipment and machines, and destroyed the corrupted sweet dishes and food before being distributed to shops, in coordination with the concerned authorities at Jeddah Municipality.
This comes within the coordination between MCI and various security agencies, where the Ministry received a tip from the Department of Civil Defense in Jeddah reporting about unlicensed plant lacking all safety and health requirements. The inspection teams proceeded to the site and seized more than 2 tons and 700 kg of “kunafa” ready for sale, 225 assorted sweet dishes, 66.000 “Sambousa” ready for sale, in addition to 2300 chips of “sambousa”. All the corrupted items had been confiscated and destroyed in accordance with the applied regulation, since they are unfit for human consumption. The owner of the site was summoned by MCI to complete the necessary legal procedures.
Since the beginning of the control plan during the Holy Month of Ramadan, MCI conducted many inspection tours in different parts of the Kingdom, led to the seizure and confiscation of large quantities of corrupted food and consuming items, which are re-stored and distributed in the markets, in order to cheat and deceive the consumers.
MCI would like to confirm the continuation of its inspection rounds on warehouses and all commercial institutions to ensure the regularity of their work and the absence of any fraud or manipulation practices on consumers, and to eradicate the supply of counterfeit and substandard products in the market.
MCI calls on all consumers to cooperate and to lodge their complaints and observations to MCI Consumer Call Center 1900, or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, via their smart phones.
