The Ministry of Commerce has carried out 2,343 inspection tours on companies, establishments and outlets selling sanitary ware in all regions of the Kingdom during the last week in order to verify the establishments ’commitment to placing Water Consumption Rationalization Labels on the offered sanitary ware and their accessories.

Failure to place a Water Rationalization Label on the products is considered a violation that requires penalties on the non-compliant establishments and outlets, according to the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law.

MC inspection rounds resulted in controlling 24 violating establishments. Thus, the percentage of the committed establishments is 89%, while the percentage of violating ones is 11% of the total establishments.

The Ministry of Commerce’s inspection tours reflect the implementation of the technical regulation of Rationalization of Water Consumption. This is to verify the commitment of the establishments, and to protect the consumers. These inspection tours have been carried out in cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities, namely: The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, the General Authority for Customs, and the National Water Company.

These concerned authorities are working to implement the requirements of the technical regulation for the rationalization of water consumption in the Kingdom, so that the consumer can easily see the efficiency rates of the rationalization of water consumption on the product.

According to its terms of reference, the Ministry of Commerce monitors the commitment of the establishments selling sanitary ware, also receives and responds to consumers ’complaints and reports on the violating establishments that are not committed to placing the rationalization of water consumption labels on the products specified in the technical regulations, namely: Faucets, toilets taps, mixers and shower heads, rinsing mixers, and urinals. This is through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, or via MC Consumer Call Center (1900), or through the official MC website.
