H.E. Dr. Al-Qasabi Heads the Kingdom's Preparatory Delegation to the WTO Ministerial Conference

His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, heads the Kingdom's delegation to the Informal Ministerial Conference of Trade Ministers of the World Trade  Organization member states, which will be held in Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco on Monday and Tuesday, 19-20 Muharram 1439H (9-10 October 2017), for the preparation of the 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the period 10-13 December 2017, to coordinate the negotiating situations of the WTO Member States and to have agreement on the expected topics to be agreed upon.

In general, this meeting aims to coordinate the negotiating situations of the WTO Member States on the issues to be presented during the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference, especially the topics on which agreement can be reached to get out of the Conference with gains that may help countries maximize the benefits of the global multiple trading system, as well as to increase market access and reduce or eliminate barriers to their exports of goods and services to foreign markets, in addition to the common concerns related to the conclusion of the Doha Development Round.

The Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which is composed of Trade Ministers of the Member States, is considered the Organization's highest authority and the highest decision-making party, where decisions are taken unanimously by the Organization.

The Ministerial Conference of WTO is held every two years. The first Ministerial Conference was held in Singapore during the period 9-13 December 1996.
