MCI Continued its Surveillance Campaigns by Confiscating 11 Thousand Expired and Counterfeit Commodities
As MCI continues its intensive surveillance campaigns on shops and commercial booths to follow up and check the foodstuffs and consuming commodities offered for pilgrims, the inspection teams detected illegal labors selling large quantities of rotten meat, estimated at more than 500 kg, in the Holy Sites. All the quantities were immediately confiscated and destroyed, after conducting inspection tours on 400 shops and booths on the 3rd day of Eid. Those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.
The MCI Inspection Teams had destroyed 11 thousand corrupted and counterfeit commodities at the Holy Site Mina, including 935 items of foodstuffs, such as vegetables, fruits, mayonnaise, ketchup, tomato, cake, and expired fast food meals due to poor storage, in addition to 8490 Herbal items and cosmetics bearing misleading medical allegations.
The seizures also included large quantities of consuming goods, such as 1870 items of watches, perfume, counterfeit eyeglasses of famous brands, as well as fake telephone devices and mobile chargers, contrary to the Saudi Standards and Specifications, while 32 instant violations were recorded on a number of shops and commercial booths.
Meanwhile, MCI pointed out the continued availability of foodstuffs and consuming items in the Holy Sites, stating that the amount of bread brought from Makkah and Jeddah bakeries to Mina on the 2nd day of Eid amounted to 2.1 million loaves.
It is worth mentioning that MCI has great interest in providing the needs of pilgrims, such as consuming commodities and foodstuffs, and make them available in the Holy Sites at reasonable prices, including basic commodities like bread, where MCI provides additional quantities through the bakeries in Makkah and Jeddah, and provided as well, within its operational plan for Hajj, large numbers of refrigerated vehicles loaded with food commodities available at both Mina and Arafat.
MCI calls on all the consumers to report any violation to the toll-free number (1900).
