MCI, Defaming the Owner of a Store Condemned of Selling Fake Auto Tires and oil in Makkah

The Ministry of Commerce has defamed the owner of a store selling fake auto tires and oil, following the issuance of a court ruling convicting him of violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law by offering and selling expired tires and fake oil that does not conform to standard specifications.

The Ministry published a summary of the ruling issued by the Criminal Court in Makkah, including imposing a fine, confiscation and destruction of the fake quantities at the expense of the violator, and defamation by publishing the verdict in two newspapers at his expense.

This comes within the Ministry's efforts to control the violators of Anti-Commercial Fraud Law and to impose the legal penalties on them, as the law provides for imposing penalties of up to three-year imprisonment, fine of up to one million riyals or both, in addition to defaming the violators in local newspapers at their expense, and deporting the illegal labors from the Kingdom, also preventing the owner of practicing the same trade activity.

The Ministry of Commerce urges all consumers to lodge their reports and complaints through MCI Consumer Call Center (900), or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, or via the Ministry’s website.
