First Shipments of Imported Cement, to Arrive Hit Markets, in 2 Weeks

​Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. TAWFIG FAWZAN ALRABIAH, pointed out here today, following a meeting with the chief executive officers of cement companies, in the Kingdom, that MCI will follow up the abidance of firms by their commitments to import cement, step by step.

Companies should import the needed their earmarked quotas, in accordance to the local market's needs and that any scaling back on the timetable, will brought them to law, he added, stressing that all companies shall build sufficient strategic stockpile, equivalent to 2-month output per a factory, to cover any shortfall in local production, via import.

 

 For his part, the Head of the National Committee of Cement Companies Dr. Zamil Al-Meqren, pointed out that companies have contacted world counterparts, promising that the first batches will arrive in the Kingdom, in two weeks.

 

The meeting has been held on the backdrop of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' noble directives, which have been announced to tackle increasing demand on cement, in order to put it at avail of the public, against the rapidly accelerated urbane development and approved housing schemes as well as the public infrastructure projects.
