The Ministry of Commerce and Investment has completed its preparations and the relevant seasonal plans for the Holy Month of Ramadan, and Umrah season in all regions of the Kingdom, especially in Makkah and Medina, in cooperation with the relevant authorities. The Ministry has carried out its proactive programs and MCI inspection teams have conducted intensive inspection tours on the shops and markets to follow up the availability and validity of basic Ramadan goods, in addition to verifying the commitment of the commercial establishments and outlets to the consumer protection systems. The inspectors shall apply the Rules & Regulations against any party in violation. MCI is endeavoring to create a fair and safe commercial environment, free of counterfeiting, fake and sub-standard goods.
MCI seasonal plan for the Holy Month of Ramadan and Umrah aims to follow up the availability of foodstuffs and basic supplies to meet the needs required for consumption during the Holy Month and Umrah season, and to ensure the safety and validity of the goods offered for human consumption, besides controlling the prices of foodstuffs, commodities and basic supplies, ensuring as well sufficient quantity of foodstuffs and commodities to meet any increase in demand, as well as follow up and control the precious metals and gemstone shops to ensure their compliance with the regulations, in addition to monitoring and inspecting fuel stations and auto service centers, to ensure and check the validity of auto oil and tires, and to destroy the invalid or expired tires, besides intensifying inspection tours on the roads leading to Medina to inspect the gas stations and rest centers to ensure compliance with instructions, also to follow up the commitment of markets and shops to place price tags on the items, and to match the prices on the shelves and the one with the cashier, as well as verifying promotion and sales programs, and taking the necessary legal procedures against any violation, or against any factor that may affect the supply and demand.
