MCI and the General Presidency for Youth Welfare Discuss the Protection of Sport Club Slogans

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry held a workshop attended by specialists from the General Presidency for Youth Welfare, the Association of Professional League and representatives of Saudi clubs, on Wednesday morning at MCI headquarters, Riyadh, in order to enhance the mutual cooperation and to discuss methods of protecting the trademarks of the sport clubs in the Kingdom.

The said workshop was attended by officials of MCI, Youth Welfare and a number of club representatives. The workshop discussed the mechanism of registering the clubs trademarks and how to preserve and protect their rights in accordance with the applied regulations, as well as protecting the club slogan to be an investment resource, besides clarifying the most important observations and remarks on the club trademarks to be avoided in the near future.

Both parties confirmed their intention to implement an awareness campaign for consumers and merchants to warn of acquiring, offering and selling counterfeit products, while an inspection tour to be followed on the offending slogans, to be kicked off early next Shawwal 1437 H, concurrently with the start of the annual sports season.

During the said workshop, the participants recommended several initiatives, such as urging the sport clubs to register their trademarks on the products and services related to their activities, besides discussing placing temporary sale outlets or booths near the stadiums and playgrounds during football matches, with the prevention of street vendors of selling any counterfeit items, in coordination with the concerned authorities. The club officials showed their support and assistance for the awareness and control campaigns to be conducted by the Ministry and Youth Welfare. The said workshop confirmed the continuous joint coordination among the concerned parties to ensure the success of their working plan.
