In cooperation with the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization and the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency, MCI inspection teams conducted inspection tours on shops and outlets selling auto tires in various regions of the Kingdom, in order to verify compliance with the Saudi specifications and standards.
MCI inspectors had carried out 4,481 tours on facilities selling tires, resulted in detecting 614 violations, such as the absence of labels on some tires, or they are placed in the wrong place, in addition to the label design which defers from the specified one, or being damaged or torn, besides some labels bear incorrect information.
This inspection campaign is part of the efforts rendered by several government authorities, working as one team, within the Saudi Program for Energy Efficiency, which aims to find a work mechanism that could ensure monitoring and compliance with the requested specifications, relevant to the initiatives launched by the said program. This is to preserve and raise the efficiency of energy consumption. This mechanism is implemented by a working team, including the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, Saudi Customs and the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency.
The tire label is very important for the consumer, since it does inform him about the best tires saving fuel, and identify the level of tire cohesion on wet surfaces. The tire label is one of the initiatives of the Saudi Program for Energy Efficiency in the Transport Sector, targeting the preservation of energy and raising the energy efficiency. Notably, the Transport Sector is one of the largest energy consuming sectors in the Kingdom.
