H.E. MCI Minister Expresses his Thanks and Appreciations to Citizens Reporting about Corrupted and Counterfeit Commodities

His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi received on Monday morning some citizens from various regions of the Kingdom, who did best cooperation with the ministry by reporting about commercial violations, which led to seizing more than 300 thousand fake commodities in various regions of the Kingdom, as well as 87 tons of corrupted fish and shrimps before being distributed to the markets.

During the reception, Dr. Al Qasabi appreciated the citizens’ initiatives and their human, religious and national common sense and morals for facing such manipulation and deception carried out by some bad people. Dr. Al Qasabi said, "You are a role model to the responsible citizen and the official representatives of consumer protection. I would like to thank you on behalf of our country for taking the initiative to report on what you have seen of irregularities and counterfeiting, surely you will be rewarded by Almighty Allah. In this country, we are being targeted in everything including fraud and manipulation. This may bring harm to consumers’ health and to our nation in general. " 

At the conclusion, H.E. the Minister thanked the helpful citizens and awarded them certificates of appreciation and financial rewards for their cooperation with the ministry.

On their part, the honored citizens expressed their gratitude for MCI initiative, saying that it is their duty and responsibility to report about such irregularities, so as to prevent any manipulation that may lead to damage the lives of humans.

The honored citizens are: Abdul Wahab bin Mohammed Al Drim, Abdul-Aziz bin Saud Al Showail, Jaber bin Ali Asiri, Ja’afar bin Saad Al-Qahtani, Fahd Al-Qarni, Ahmed bin Khaled Al Jirry, Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Ahmari, Mokhlous Abdullah Sa’eed.

It is worth mentioning that such violation reports and complaints led to the seizure and destruction of corrupted foodstuffs, juices, counterfeit liquid soap, fake empty containers, counterfeit goods and stickers for famous Trade Marks. In addition to some medical materials and packages in violation, also some machinery and tools for forging purposes, besides expired and corrupted fish, shrimps and dates.

Notably, MCI Consumers Call Center (1900) received 306 thousand complaints during 1437 AH.
 
MCI calls on all consumers to cooperate and to lodge any complaint through the Consumers Call Center 1900, or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report via their smart phones, since such violations pose risk on the safety of consumers.
