Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the start of the application of the National Guide for the Economic Activities in accordance with the International Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities (ISIC4), issued by the United Nations, indicating that the classification will be applied, at its first phase, on the Commercial Registration of the individual institutions.

MCI has pointed out that the National Classification applied in the Kingdom contains more than 2,800 economic activities, stating at the same time that it allows the possibility of identifying and coding the economic activities precisely, depending on the International Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities ISIC 4.

This comes within the Ministry`s pursuit to consolidate the economic activities and to adopt the International Standard  Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities, this is to create a standard statistic base capable of issuing reports and statistics which may help in drawing the economic policies of the Kingdom and providing economic information to decision-makers. This also contributes in building the economic content of the Kingdom, where it will be available for those interested in getting information about all the economic activities practiced in the Kingdom.

MCI considers the application of the National Guide for the Economic Activities as an infrastructure for linking and integration process among various government agencies, which may push forward the e-government to broader horizons, where e-communication would be effected among licensed government agencies and the relevant authorities to exchange the consolidated codes for the economic activities electronically rather than relying on paper works. This may contribute to facilitate the work and to   be completed within record time among the government agencies.

MCI had held recently introductory workshops for more than 25 government agencies, so as to give a definition about the National Consolidated Classification, through which the items of the project and the major challenges had been discussed,   as well as the aspects of future teamwork among the government agencies had been planned, since the government agencies cooperation is considered a key factor for the success of the project at the national level.

It is worth mentioning that almost 40 countries around the world, including major economic countries, had relied on the International Standard Industrial Classification, ISIC, which is considered an essential tool for studying the economic activities and comparing the international data.
