H.E. Dr. Al Qasabi Launches the Strategy of the Saudi Intellectual Property Authority (SIPA)

H.E. the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Intellectual Property Authority, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qassabi, has launched today the strategy of the Saudi Intellectual Property Authority (SIPA) and its plan, as well as its new identity during the meeting held on Thursday at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh, concurrently with the annual World Intellectual Property Day on 26 April each year.

During the meeting, SIPA Board of Directors members reviewed the most prominent features of SIPA strategy, which is based on eight strategic hubs, as follows: preparation of the National IP Strategy and following up the implementation, updating the intellectual property systems and its implementing regulations, providing the intellectual property products and services efficiently and with a very high quality, raising awareness of the intellectual property rights, in addition to directing and guiding the Intellectual Property System in the Kingdom, providing the intellectual property information and having access and availing of such information, having cooperation with intellectual property enforcement bodies, as well as having cooperation with Intellectual Property World Organizations, representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and defending its rights and interests in such Organizations.

H.E. Dr. Al Qasabi stressed the important role of SIPA in boosting the innovation environment, also stimulating the creative and innovative entrepreneurs, in addition to the contribution of preserving the intellectual property rights, relevant to the development of SMEs sector, as well as improving the business and investment environment in the Kingdom. This would definitely contribute in attracting foreign investment to the Kingdom. H.E. urges the attendants to do their best to make the Kingdom a leading global model, relevant to the protection of intellectual property rights. All that for the realization of the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

H.E. Dr. Al-Qasabi pointed that during the preparation of SIPA strategy, the best international practices have been taken into account. This is to protect competitiveness in the Kingdom and to contribute in the growth of the National Economy to the rank of the most powerful economies in the world.

It is worth mentioning that the Saudi Intellectual Property Authority is one of the initiatives of the Trade and Investment System within the National Transformation Program 2020 to facilitate business, support the National Economy, encourage investment and to give the Kingdom a higher rank in the World Competitiveness Index.

The Board of Directors of the Saudi Intellectual Property Authority held its first meeting on 27.06.1439 H corresponding to 15.03.2018 AD, and set the objectives and priority tasks for SIPA to be an integrated and comprehensive intellectual property body, and to be a global hub for the intellectual property in the Middle East and North Africa.
