MCI, Defaming against the Owner of an Establishment in Makkah for Violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment has defamed the owner of an establishment specialized in wholesale and retail of foodstuffs in Makkah. Those responsible in the said Est. were found guilty of violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law by offering and selling expired foodstuffs, besides storing the foodstuffs in a warehouse that lacks the approved standard specifications.

Meanwhile, MCI has published the judicial ruling issued by the Criminal Court in Makkah, imposing a fine, as well as shutting down the offending Est. and publishing the sentence in two local newspapers at the expense of the violator.

The details go back when MCI inspection teams were carrying out inspection tours in Makkah markets, they detected the said Est. involved in violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law by offering and selling expired foodstuffs, also storing such items in a way that is contrary to the approved standard specifications. Accordingly, a violation notice was released, as well as the seizures were destroyed and the case was referred to the judicial authorities for taking the necessary legal procedures.

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment will not hesitate in taking stern measures, imposing the legal penalties and addressing any violations related to the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law. This is for the protection of consumers against cheating, counterfeiting and deception. 

MCI calls on all consumers to lodge their complaints and observations through MCI Consumer Call Center (1900) or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report or via the Ministry's website.
