H.E. the Governor of the General Authority for Foreign Trade, Abdulrahman bin Ahmed Al-Harbi, has praised taking the decision by the Technical Secretariat Office of the Standing Committee for Combating Harmful Practices, relevant to International Trade, in GCC countries, for initiating a Preventive measures against the import increase of some steel products.
H.E. Al-Harbi confirmed that this decision will protect the local industry and remove any relevant harm. This will definitely achieve fair trade, especially in light of the unexpected circumstances of import increase of some steel products to the Gulf markets, taking into consideration as well the preventive measures of some world countries against their imports of steel products.
It is worth mentioning that the Office of the Technical Secretariat for Combating Harmful Practices, in World Trade, in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) announced in its official bulletin (23) the relevant decision of the Standing Committee to initiate a preventive measures against the increase of steel imports in GCC countries. This is in accordance with the Unified Anti-Dumping System, also the compensatory and preventive measures of the GCC States, which allowed the Standing Committee to initiate preventive measures by its own, when there are sufficient and justified reasons.
H.E. the Governor of the General Authority for Foreign Trade calls on the Saudi industry to activate and maximize the benefit of the three WTO agreements relevant to Anti-Dumping, Countervailing Measures and Preventive Measures, in order to protect local industries from harmful trade practices. That is by increasing cooperation between the public and private sectors which is considered a basic pillar for the realization of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
