24 May 2015
The government efforts through “the Saudi Program for Energy Efficiency”, seek to put an end to the growing electric power consumption in the kingdom, through designed programs and by updating the standard specifications for household electrical appliances consuming excessive electric power. Therefore, control measures would be taken on factories, showrooms and stores dealing with electrical appliances consuming excessive power in all regions of the Kingdom, to ensure their compliance with the required specifications.

This job would be carried out by the competent government authorities, including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, the Saudi Customs and the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency.

In this regard, MCI calls on all merchants, manufacturers and importers of electrical appliances (refrigerators and freezers) to ensure the conformity of their products with the standard specifications approved by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, according to what had been published in Um Al Qurah newspaper No. (4500) dated 07.04.1435 H corresponding to 07.02.2014 AD, and No. (4549) dated 25.03.1435 H corresponding to 16.01.2015 AD.

MCI would like to warn those who still have refrigerators and freezers in violation and contrary to the required specification, to disclose them immediately before the start of the control and inspection rounds, and thus be able to re-export such items. In case of detecting any undisclosed appliances, they would be subject to Anti-Commercial Fraud Law. Notably, the deadline for disclosure is 10.08.1436 H corresponding to 28.05.2015 AD.
