Inspectors ensured there were adequate food supplies and monitored offers and discounts

Inspectors from the Ministry of Commerce have continued visiting stores in Makkah and Madinah regions to guarantee establishments are in compliance with consumer protection regulations during Ramadan and the Umrah season.

The inspection visits were carried out in conjunction with the pertinent authorities and according to the seasonal plan developed by the Ministry to keep a close eye on the quantity of food supplies and vital commodities that meet consumer demand. Inspectors ascertained that suppliers could provide the market with sufficient quantities and took legal action against lawbreakers and anyone attempting to disrupt the flow of demand and supply.

During the Umrah season, inspectors increased their inspections of outlets on routes leading to Makkah and Madinah, such as service centers, petrol stations, tire stores, vehicle oil change stores, and precious stone stores, to ensure that businesses adhere to regulations.

In addition to verifying the authenticity of promotions and discounts, monitoring teams make sure that food items are of high quality, in line with industry specifications and standards, and have accurate prices that match cash registers.

The inspectors made proactive visits before the start of Ramadan to check on the availability of essential products in stores and make sure they were consumable, as well as to crack down on any fraudulent, deceptive, or otherwise illicit practices and penalize violators.

The Ministry urges consumers to report any complaint or violation by calling (1900) or via the “Commercial Report” App.
