The Ministry of Commerce has defamed the owner of a petrol station in Makkah, following the issuance of a court ruling convicting him of violating the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law for possessing and selling petroleum products that do not conform to standard specifications, and for deceiving and misleading the consumers in relation to fuel calibration.

The Ministry has published a summary of the judicial ruling issued by the Criminal Court in Makkah, including imposing a fine on the offender and defamation by publishing the verdict in two newspapers at his expense.

This comes within the Ministry’s efforts in following up and monitoring the commitment of fuel stations in all regions of the Kingdom, taking into consideration the protection of consumers, and for controlling the violations of the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law, as well as for imposing the legal penalties against the violators. MC law provides for imposing a penalty of up to three-year  imprisonment, and a fine of up to one million riyals, or both, besides defaming the offender in two local newspapers at his expense, also deporting the illegal labors, in addition to preventing the offender of practicing the same commercial activity.

MC urges the consumers to lodge their complaints and reports through MC Consumer Call Center (1900), or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, or via the Ministry’s official website.
