MCI, a Raid has Revealed a Warehouse Collects Contaminated Sponge from House Containers to Manufacture Pillows

​Confiscation of 50 tons of sponge cubes and 5 thousand forged mattresses for famous brands.

 
A raid carried out by MCI Control Teams in Al Faisaliah area, south of Riyadh revealed a warehouse run by foreign labors collecting old sponge and cotton from the house containers and the municipal dump, to be re- outfitted, manufactured and filled in different sizes of pillows bearing the brands “ Turkish” and “American” to be then marketed as new and imported items. Large quantities were confiscated inside the involved warehouse which had been closed later. Those involved were summoned for investigation and application of legal procedures, and the violating labors were referred to the concerned authorities.
 
It had been found out during the raid carried out by the MCI Control Teams with the participation of the joint security campaign on the warehouse that the offending labors were running the said warehouse for their own account, and they were marketing the adulterated products to the shops, besides the warehouse was in violation and does not carry licenses, or outside sign, and the sponge and the materials used were contaminated because they came from the containers.
 
The seizures Included: (2350) small pillows stuffed with spongy used materials  and remnants of carpeting and a material used in manufacturing of sofa, and (3000) three thousands of mattresses stuffed with unusable sponge, and 50 tons Old Sponge, diced used sponge to be re-stuffed and re- packaged,  in addition to  4000 rolls of fabric for Packaging pillows and mattresses, 4 small trucks and 2 large trucks had been seized as well.
 
This comes as a continuation of the intensive inspection campaigns carried out by the Ministry on factories, warehouses and shops in all regions of the Kingdom, to ensure the quality of the stored materials, and those offered for sale, and to ensure the absence of irregularities that may affect the health and safety of the consumer.
 
MCI emphasizes that it will continue its Control Rounds on markets, food warehouses, shops and all institutions, to ensure their regular work, and the absence of fraud practices, and manipulation on consumers, and to stop exploiting the demand for purchase in selling and marketing corrupted and expired products.
 
MCI also stresses that it will not tolerate in imposing legal penalties on violators and those involved in the practice of fraud and counterfeiting, and all that put the health and safety of consumers at risk.
