The Ministry of Commerce and Investment, in cooperation with the General Authority for Meteorology and Environment Protection, the Saudi Standard, Metrology and Quality Organization and the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency, destroyed 25 tons of thermal insulation materials, which were proven after the necessary inspection to be in violation of the Saudi standard specifications.
The destroyed insulation materials included poly-styrene and polyurethane. They were disposed of by a qualified company, in special safe wastelands, using scientific and environmental methods.
These efforts are part of a government action plan, coordinating its work under the supervision of the Saudi Program for Energy Efficiency, which seeks to put an end to the growing power consumption in the Kingdom, by raising the efficiency of consumption, through using initiatives and programs tailored to the local market potentials, such as controlling and updating a number of special standards and materials like thermal insulation, electrical appliances, the items in transportation and buildings sectors that cause high consumption of power, besides enhancing control over customs outlets, factories, showrooms and shops of electrical products in all Saudi cities, to ensure their commitment with the Saudi standard specifications.
This mechanism is implemented by an action team, including MCI, Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, the Saudi Standard, Metrology and Quality Organization, the Saudi Customs and the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency.
