The Ministry of Commerce has conducted 452 inspection tours on auto tire sales outlets across the Kingdom, in coordination with the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center.
The aim was to verify compliance of business outlets with approved standards and ensure the accuracy of commercial data shown on products, including manufacturing and expiry dates, energy efficiency cards, and quality standards.
As a result of the field visits, 127,000 non-compliant car tires were seized from warehouses in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, as they had future manufacturing dates, which pose a risk to the safety of road users. The seized quantities have been confiscated for disposal.
The Ministry of Commerce has summoned the suppliers and owners of the nonconforming outlets for legal accountability and prosecution under the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law.
The Ministry stresses its continued efforts to curb commercial fraud, as it negatively affects consumer safety and well-being. The Anti-Commercial Fraud Law stipulates penalties of up to three years imprisonment, fines of up to one million riyals, or both, public exposure of violators, and the deportation of illegal workers.
Consumers can lodge complaints and reports of non-compliant outlets and locations via the Ministry's hotline at 1900 or through the "Commercial Complaint" App.
