The start of a campaign to install the Brake Override System
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the start of calling in the first batch of Toyota vehicles in the domestic market by Toyota agent in Saudi Arabia for the installation of Brake Override System to treat the problem of speed stabilizers. This is within the mandatory call in campaign announced by the MCI earlier. The announcement has been issued for calling in Lexus RX 350, model 2010 to install the Brake Override System for free as of today, Sunday, 18/03/1435 AH corresponding to 19/01/2014 AD .
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry had announced earlier about compelling Toyota World Co. and its local agent Abdul Latif Jameel Co. to conduct a campaign for the installation of Brake Override System for Toyota cars in the Kingdom, in order to reduce the risk of starting cars at high speeds without the ability of the driver to stop or control it, this is similar to what had been taken by the Japanese company in the United States .
MCI pointed out in an earlier press statement that the final meetings with Toyota W. Co. and its local agent A. L. J. had come out with its commitment to conduct a mandatory call in campaign for the installation of Brake Override System on Toyota cars in the Kingdom to include more than 400 thousand cars of ten types.
The agreement with the said company had mentioned as well that A.L.J. Co. will conduct a progressive awareness campaign until the completion of Brake Override System installation on all cars for the notification of car users in the kingdom about the safest ways to deal with cases of launching cars at high speeds without the ability of the driver to stop or control it. So that Saudi Arabia is the second country to take such measures after the United States of America, while Canada is still considering taking similar measures.
MCI has emphasized again that each car manufacturer taking similar international action to be applied in the Kingdom as well, and it will take all necessary measures to ensure that the Saudi consumer is getting his rights.
