Seizures Included Fake Perfumes and Shampoos for Famous Brands
Within the efforts of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in tracking down suppliers and distributors of counterfeit and adulterated goods, the MCI Field Teams detected labors involved in the storage of 100 thousand counterfeit consuming goods, amid the old traditional houses in Al Deira area in Riyadh. MCI Inspection Teams monitored groups of expats, working for their own account, storing large quantities of counterfeit perfumes and shampoos to be sold and marketed to the consumers by misleading them that they are original. Those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.
The seized and confiscated quantities, in coordination with the joint security campaign, included: more than 56 thousand counterfeit " Johnson patch", in addition to more than 9400 packets of counterfeit fragrance for famous brands such as "Chanel" and "Cartier" and "Lacoste" and "Polgari" and others, and more than 18 thousand packets of counterfeit shampoo for famous brands such as "Sun Silk", "Pert Plus" "Head & Shoulder," and "Pantene".
It was found out, during the raid on the above mentioned sites, that all the houses exploited in storing counterfeit commodities were run by immigrant labors working for their own account by marketing the counterfeit products to the small retail shops.
MCI had announced, during the last period, about implementing intensive inspection campaigns that led to the seizure of many counterfeit and adulterated goods in the old areas in the center of Riyadh. Large quantities of counterfeit auto parts, computer chargers, printer ink and others were confiscated, those involved for marketing and selling such items were tracked, and the necessary legal procedures had been taken against them.
MCI emphasizes that it will continue its inspection rounds on commercial and industrial sectors in all regions of the Kingdom, to ensure the absence of fraud and adulteration practices that may affect the consumer, to respond to the consumers` reports and to implement the rules and regulation on the violators.
MCI also emphasizes that it will not tolerate in imposing the legal penalties on the violators and those involved in the practice of fraud, and all that put the health and safety of consumers at risk.
