8 other Factories were Given Warnings during Inspection Rounds Included 17 Factories in the Kingdom

The Control and Inspection campaigns, on tires retreading factories, carried out by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in cooperation and coordination with Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, resulted in closing down four plants in Riyadh,  Jeddah and Khamis Mushat, after failing to comply with the Saudi standard specifications and safety criteria for the renewal and retreading of tires, eight other factories had been given warnings and they signed pledges to make the necessary modifications to meet the official requirements and to correct the monitored violations during a period not exceeding six months.

This came during an inspection rounds included 17 plants in six cities in various regions of the Kingdom, where the inspectors spotted a number of factories not complying with the Saudi standard specifications and the safety criteria for the renewal and retreading of tires, while the results of the   performance tests showed the failure of a certain percentage of tires produced by those plants, in addition that such factories did not apply the requirements of the standard specification for tires storage.

The reasons for the test failure of such tires are due to using invalid old tires, not possible to be renewed or retreaded, in accordance with the related requirements of the Saudi standards, as well as the lack of the devices and equipment necessary to perform the tire renewal properly, as referred to in the specifications at those factories, in addition to the lack of the specialized technical labors and the performance test device, which is of extreme importance in the improvement, development and correction process, in order to produce tires matching the standard specifications.

According to the test results conducted by the technical teams at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, the tire retreading factories that had failed in the performance test, were closed down, until they apply the necessary modifications and make the technical amendments to meet the Saudi standards.

The technical teams had warned the violating factories in the visual inspection results, which did not put the trade data on the tires and which did not comply with storage requirements, they were given warning notice to develop a plan to implement the Saudi standards in a period not exceeding six months, at the same time the Ministry stressed the application of statutory penalties on the violating factories, in accordance with the Anti- Commercial Fraud, confirming as well the confiscation of all products, that will be detected, not complying with the Saudi standard specifications.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization confirmed that the coming period will witness inspection campaigns on tire retreading factories, as well as samples will be withdrawn to conduct the necessary tests, also granting licenses to those factories will be conditioned on how far they commit to the Saudi standard specification, taking into consideration the storage requirements, in addition to submitting a technical report, from a certified lab, for testing three samples of tires.
