MCI inspection campaign on markets and retailers of electric water heaters resulted in seizing 9204 heaters, noncompliance with the Saudi Standard Specifications during last week.
MCI campaign comes concurrently with winter season, which aims to monitor the markets and retailers of electric water heaters, and to verify compliance and commitment with the regulations and conditions of these devices. The said campaign had made 3300 inspection tours on various shops, where 269 violations had been recorded.
MCI inspectors monitored some violations to the regulations and conditions announced by the Ministry earlier. The main irregularities include absence of explanatory data like Voltage, Watt, defects in the metal parts, lack of catalogue showing the policies of providing spare parts, lack of warranty or it is not written in Arabic, lack of price tag as well.
MCI is keen to proceed its inspection tours to monitor and seize any device in violation and non-complying with the Saudi Standard Specifications, since any violating device may pose a risk to the safety of users. Therefore, statutory penalties would be imposed on the facilities not in compliance with R&R. According to the Law of Combating Commercial Fraud, selling any products in violation would lead to imposing a fine up to SR 500 thousand riyals or imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years or both.
MCI would like to call all consumers to report any violation related to electric water heaters or any other products for their safety, through contacting the Consumer Call Center 1900 or through the application of a commercial violation report by their smart phones.
