The Truck was Stopped before Unloading, and all the Seized items were Destroyed
The MCI Surveillance Teams had detected, through their Inspection Rounds, a truck belonging to one of the Commercial Establishments in Riyadh, delivering rotten and corrupted foodstuffs because the refrigerator in the truck was out of order, which resulted in the corruption of large quantities of meat, chicken and cheese. Consequently, they became unfit for the human consumption. MCI had immediately destroyed all the seized quantities, and those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.
The details go back when the MCI Inspection Teams suspected a truck delivering and distributing frozen and cooled foodstuffs on a number of restaurants and shops in Riyadh, and upon inspecting and checking the said truck, it had been found out that the refrigeration system in the vehicle was out of order. Therefore, all the items had become rotten and corrupted. The MCI Teams had verified the said corruption of the meat and chicken after co-ordination with the Environmental Health of the Secretariat of Riyadh District.
The seized items included: 860 Brazilian chicken of total weight 860 thousand grams, 108 shawarmer chicken weighing each 270 grams, 155 kilogram of New Zealand frozen meat, in addition to the 15 kilo of German duck, 15 kg cow liver, 54 bags of Mozzarella and sliced cheese and quantities of Turkish yoghurt(labna).
The seized items included also a group of frozen vegetables and fruits, including 32 frozen guava packets, 20 packets of frozen strawberries, 10 packets of frozen mango and 20 packets of frozen Okra.
This comes within the framework of the intensive inspection campaigns implemented by MCI in various regions of the Kingdom, to ensure the quality of the stored commodities, and those offered for sale, and to ensure the absence of violation that may affect the health and safety of the consumer, where the said inspection campaigns had prevented a number of trucks from selling their cargo due to the corruption of the Foodstuffs because of poor storage, transportation, and the lack of proper temperature.
MCI stresses that it will not tolerate in the application of the legal procedures against the violators and those involved in the practice of fraud and counterfeiting, and all that puts the health and safety of consumers at risk.
