H.E. Minister of Commerce & Investment Discusses Intellectual Property Issues with the Director General of (WIPO)

H.E. the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, met on Tuesday 13.12.2016 AD, the Director General of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Francis Gurry, who is on an official visit to the Kingdom.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues, notably the intellectual property rights, the international protection of geographical indicators for goods and products and supporting the small and medium enterprises, in light of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

It is worth mentioning that the (WIPO) is one of the United Nations agencies that finance itself, with 189 Member States. WIPO mission is to play a leading role in setting up a balanced and effective global intellectual property system that encourages innovation and creativity for the benefit of all, besides developing international norms and standards on the intellectual property. WIPO aims at providing global services in the field of intellectual property and to facilitate availing of such services, also to promote international cooperation, with full endeavor to respect the intellectual property.

It is worth mentioning that the Kingdom joined WIPO in Rajab, 1402 H, corresponding to May, 1982 AD.
