MCI Inspection Teams Confiscated more than 1,300 Cosmetics nonconforming with the Saudi Standard Specifications

MCI inspection campaign on cosmetic shops resulted in the confiscation of 1318 items in violation and not conforming to specifications.

MCI inspection campaign, which included more than 3,700 outlets and detected 75 shops in violation, aims to ensure the conformity of cosmetics with the Saudi standard specifications, and to ensure as well the absence of fraud and manipulation   practices on consumers, and to eradicate the supply of counterfeit or substandard products in the market.

Meanwhile, this intensive campaign came after receiving information from the General Authority for Food and Drug stating that the results of the analysis proved the presence of fake and harmful types of cosmetics in the markets. Therefore, MCI inspectors had detected counterfeit and fake cream, perfume, products for losing weight, makeup and eyeliner. The seized items contain harmful substances and some do not bear the country of origin certificate or validity date.

It is worth mentioning that MCI has been carrying out periodic and ongoing inspection on shops selling cosmetics, to verify their compliance with the Rules, Regulations and standard specifications, any violation would lead to imposing fines and penalties, as per the law of combating commercial fraud, which may reach to five hundred thousand riyals or imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years or both.

MCI calls on all consumers to cooperate and lodge their complaints to the Consumer Call Center (1900), or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report via their smart phones.
