E-commerce Council Holds its 5th Meeting and Discusses the Implementation Plan for E-Commerce System

His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qassabi, chaired the fifth meeting of the E-Commerce Council on Wednesday, 10.07.2019, during which the E-Commerce Implementation Plan was discussed. The progress of E-Commerce Council's initiatives were reviewed as well.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense for the Council of Ministers' approval on E-Commerce System. H.E. pointed out the keenness of the wise leadership to enhance the e-commerce system, as one of the most important objectives of the National Transformation Program, leading to the realization of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

At the beginning of the meeting, the E-Commerce Council reviewed what have been achieved in relation to the decisions and proposals made in the previous meetings. The council discussed as well various obstacles facing this sector, such as the reorganization of mail and its relevant licenses, also the progress in the United Nations E-commerce Index, as well as the logistic services.

The E-Commerce Council, approved recently by the Council of Ministers, aims to develop and enhance the business of e-commerce system, which is one of the strategic objectives of the National Transformation Program, leading to the realization of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. This is through creating an attractive and stimulating environment for investors.

The E-Commerce Council was established with the membership of 13 government agencies and 3 representatives from the private sector, aiming at unifying the efforts and focusing on a number of issues, including the logistic services, digital payment system. In addition to facilitating the work of e-commerce and enhancing the reliability of its transactions, besides preserving the consumers' rights, and keeping up with the developments of the global e-commerce market.

The E-Commerce Council works to implement 39 different initiatives that contribute to the development of e-commerce infrastructure, also supporting the relevant regulations and legislations, besides updating the payment systems, mail and logistic services, as well as stimulating innovation in a number of fields and providing a package of services to empower and enable SMEs to access this activity.
