MCI confiscated and destroyed about 15 thousand air conditioners contrary to the energy efficiency card from a store belonging to an importing  company specialized in  selling  air conditioners in the domestic market after the deadline of the disclosure for the suppliers who did not disclose their stock. Therefore,  statutory procedures have been applied against them. This came after the inspection rounds conducted by the supervisory control teams during the last period on the stores and warehouses and confiscating the violating items and taking necessary action against the violators after the expiry of the deadline given by the Ministry for the companies to disclose the violating stock of the energy efficiency card in the warehouses .

The process of destroying the violating items had been done according to scientific methods , where a specialized company had been asked to empty the C.F.C from air conditioners , so as to preserve the environment  and ensure that no infiltration to the outside air layer , in addition to not leaving any negative impact on the site after the damage .

MCI had earlier confiscated 40 thousand air conditioners contrary to the energy efficiency card from various regions of the Kingdom.

The violating air conditioners that have been seized and confiscated Included a number of different types, models and sizes.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Commerce had begun the inspection rounds on the market on 01/01/2014 AD after an awareness campaign had been carried out describing the aim of the energy efficiency card and the need for business establishments to adhere on that, and to confiscate any violating devices that have not committed to do so.

The energy efficiency card imposed on business establishments to put on the air conditioners shows the minimum stars that should be available in all types of devices, where a minimum of four stars should be available on " split a/c " and three stars on window type a/c.

This comes within the framework of joint coordination with the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency and Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Authority, Saudi Customs, and a number of concerned government authorities, in order to improve energy efficiency in the Kingdom, and to   design special programs to increase energy efficiency and to overcome the obstacles and difficulties encountered.

MCI calls on all consumers to cooperate with the Ministry  and report about the absence of energy efficiency card on air conditioners in the shops by calling MCI Report Center on  800 124 1616.
