Three Warehouses Using Polluted & Recycled Sponge for Making Mattresses were Shut down in Medina, Riyadh and Jeddah by MCI Inspection Campaigns

As part of MCI inspection campaigns to reveal and detect those involved in using recycled and polluted sponge, three factories were shut down in Medina, Riyadh and Jeddah. All the quantities in violation were seized and confiscated before being distributed in the local markets, since they pose threat on the health and safety of consumers, while the owners were summoned for investigation and taking the legal proceedings against them.

In details, MCI inspectors had shut down a warehouse in Medina, involved in using discarded and recycled mattresses, and then claiming that they are of high-quality and specifications after doing the necessary upholstery and wrapping. More than 20 thousand mattresses were confiscated. Also MCI inspectors had shut down a warehouse in Al-Shifa quarter, south Riyadh, storing large quantities of polluted & recycled sponge mattresses for the same purposes.

MCI had responded to a tip from a citizen and raided a warehouse in Al Ajaweed quarter in Jeddah, the inspectors monitored illegal labors involved in using polluted and discarded sponge for making mattresses and pillows. More than two thousand pieces of such items were seized, besides some machines used for recycling and sewing, also a truck used for distribution was monitored in the site, the said warehouse was shut down, while the owner and labors were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them. 

It is worth mentioning that MCI had announced earlier the closure of some factories and warehouses in various regions for the same reasons.

This comes within MCI on-going inspection tours on warehouses and commercial facilities, to verify their regular operations, and to ensure the absence of cheating and   manipulation practices on the consumers, and to eradicate the supply of counterfeit and substandard products in the market.
 
MCI will not hesitate to impose the legal penalties on offenders and those involved in the practice of fraud, and all that puts the health and safety of consumers at risk.
