The Ministry of Commerce has recently held a workshop to discuss the effects of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its ramifications on global and domestic markets. The participants explored how the crisis will impact products, goods, and production costs, and jack up shipping and logistics costs.
Entitled “Discusstion on the impact of Russian-Ukrainian crisis on stable supplies of essential goods”, the workshop drew 12 government agencies and the Council of Saudi Chambers along with representatives of 70 major food wholesalers and retailers.
Dr. Majid Abdullah Al-Qasabi, Minister of Commerce, emphasized the government's eagerness to address all challenges and obstacles confronting the private sector in relation to supply chains and food stocks of basic necessities in light of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
The workshop highlighted the role of government agencies in keeping track of supply chains and controlling goods and explored 30 supply chain challenges and solutions.
The importance of coordinating government efforts and collaborating with the private sector was also emphasized, with a focus on opening permanent communication channels to ensure a constant flow of supplies for essential food and full access to sales outlets. The participants talked about how to make it easier to get alternative products and goods from regions affected by the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
