Illegal Labors Involved in Collecting and Distributing such Quantities to the Factories
MCI continued its inspection campaigns to trace and prosecute those involved in fraud and counterfeiting. Therefore, more than three thousand tons of polluted and recycled sponge were seized in seven warehouses in Riyadh. MCI inspectors monitored illegal labors collecting such discarded and polluted sponge from the municipal dump, and then they used to sell it to factories for making mattresses and pillows, and thus cheating and deceiving the consumers. The violating sites were shut down by MCI, while those responsible were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.
MCI inspectors monitored a truck collecting recycled and discarded mattresses from the municipal containers and dump in Al Sulai quarter, east of Riyadh. After making the necessary investigation and tracing the source of such quantities, the sites were raided by the inspectors, and that case was referred to the concerned committee in the Ministry for taking the necessary legal action.
It is worth mentioning that MCI had announced earlier the closure of some factories and warehouses, involved in collecting recycled and discarded sponge and fabrics from the waste and municipal dump for making pillows, mattresses and Arabic sofa, and then such items used to be wrapped and unregistered trademarks used to be placed, in order to delude and deceive the consumers. Strict penalties were taken against the violators at that time.
MCI confirms that it will continue its inspection tours on warehouses, factories and commercial facilities, to verify their operation, and to ensure the absence of fraud and manipulation practices on consumers, and to eradicate the supply of counterfeit and substandard products in the market.
MCI will not hesitate to impose legal penalties on offenders and those involved in the practice of fraud, and all that puts the health and safety of consumers at risk.
MCI calls on all consumers to lodge their complaints and observations through the toll free number 1900, or through the application of a Commercial Notification
