H.E. Gives Directives to Submit Weekly Reports on the Results of the Inspection Tours
H.E. the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, has supervised personally this morning, Sunday 29.08.1437 H. the readiness and preparations of MCI inspection teams in all regions of the Kingdom, by meeting the directors general of the Ministry`s branches in various regions of the Kingdom, with the attendance of the deputy ministers and MCI officials, through visual communication service. This conference meeting is attended by officials from General Investment Authority, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, the Saudi Organization for Certified Evaluators and the Authority of Small & Medium Enterprises.
H.E. Dr. Al Qasabi has listened to the work plan of the Ministry`s branches in various regions of the Kingdom, for the implementation of inspection tours to ensure the availability of basic commodities and the alternatives items, to check the validity of such items, also to monitor commercial fraud, and to take the necessary action against any factors that may affect the supply and demand, as well as to verify the real or fake promotions in the shopping centers and trading markets.
H.E. the Minister has been briefed on the stages of the proactive action plans in various regions, which had begun earlier, as well as the ones to be effected during the Holy Month of Ramadan, followed by Eid al-Fitr. H.E. gives his directives to the need of submitting the reports` results on weekly basis regularly.
H.E. the Minister has been notified as well on the readiness and preparation of MCI branches in Makkah and Medina to perform and implement the Annual Control & Operational Plan, concurrently with the arrival of the Omrah pilgrims and visitors of the Holy Places, in cooperation and coordination with the relevant Government Authorities.
H.E. Dr. Al Qasabi urged all MCI staff to render all efforts and endeavors to respond to any complaint and to control violations, so that to ensure the protection and preservation of the consumers rights.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Commerce and Investment had announced earlier the implementation of intensive inspection tours on retail outlets to follow-up the availability of basic goods and foodstuffs during the Holy Month of Ramadan, and to verify the commitment of placing the price tags on the offered items, and to verify that such prices match with the billing of cash register (NCR) at the check-out counter, in addition to monitoring the promotions advertised during Ramadan season, to ensure the absence of deception and counterfeiting on consumers, and to take all legal procedures against any violation and to impose the necessary penalties on violators.
