03 Nov 2014
Worn-out Equipment and Tools were Found, lacking Health Requirements and Hygiene

Within the inspection rounds carried out by the MCI Control Teams in Jazan, an ice plant had been detected lacking the health requirements. The plant was producing ice cubes by using  contaminated water with algae and sewage,  because the manholes of the drainage system were not closed, so this led to the spread of sewage and insects in the production lines, as well as the said plant was using contaminated, worn-out and rusty equipment and tools. All the quantities had been confiscated before being distributed in the local market with the closure of the site. Those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the necessary legal procedures against them.

The details go back when the MCI Control Teams received a notification about the ice plant in Abu Arish Governorate, where they immediately rushed to the site and discovered the contaminated water used for making ice, besides the plant was lacking the necessary health requirements, and the labors did not comply with the minimum hygiene standards.

MCI had announced earlier about the closure of an ice plant in Yanbu, because of using rusty water tanks for making ice, where the detected quantities had been confiscated and those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.

The Ministry emphasizes that it will not tolerate in imposing the legal penalties on violators and those involved in the practice of fraud, and all that put the health and safety of consumers at risk.
