MINISTER OF COMMERCE LEADS A GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE SECTOR DELEGATION TO MOROCCO TO DISCUSS ENHANCING TRADE AND INVESTMENT TIES

H.E. Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the General Authority for Foreign Trade, Dr. Majid Abdullah Al-Qasabi led a delegation from the public and private sectors traveling to the Kingdom of Morocco for a four-day official visit. The delegation is accompanied by representatives from 12 government officials and 62 Saudi businesses. 

His Excellency the Minister meets today with His Excellency Engineer Riad Mazur, Morocco's Minister of Industry and Trade, to discuss ways to strengthen trade and investment relations and empower the private sector in both countries to invest in promising opportunities to boost trade volume and develop investments.

During his visit, Al-Qasabi will take part in the Saudi-Moroccan Economic Forum, which will be held tomorrow with the participation of a group of businessmen representing the two countries' major corporations.

The two countries also signed two joint collaboration memorandums in the field of mutual recognition of halal certificates for local products, as well as a draft technical collaboration program between the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization and the Moroccan Institute for Standardization during the visit.

His Excellency the Minister of Commerce will inaugurate the new commercial attaché headquarters in Casablanca, which aims to develop relations and overcome difficulties faced by the private sector. It will enable Saudi exports to enter markets and attract lucrative investments that contribute to the promotion of trade between the two countries.

The Saudi delegation's visit will include meetings with ministers and senior officials, as well as discussion of pioneer projects in a variety of fields.

Along with the General Authority for Foreign Trade, the Saudi delegation includes the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Ministry of Investment, the Public Investment Fund, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, the Saudi Ports Authority, the Transport General Authority, the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones “MODON”, the Saudi Exports Development Authority and the Saudi Post. 

In 2021, bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded 5 billion riyals. Metal products, plastics, and their manufacture were the most common exports to Morocco, while clothing, cars, and auto parts were the most common imports.
