The Ministry of Commerce and Investment continues its field inspection as part of its plan for the current Hajj season 1440 AH, including Makkah, Madinah, related provinces and the roads leading to the two Holy Mosques and other holy places.

The Ministry focuses on the availability and quality of food supplies and other consuming products to be provided to the pilgrims through the shops and booths, besides verifying that such items are suitable for consumption and conform to Saudi standard specifications.

MCI is keen to intensify the inspection tours on the commercial establishments to control cases of commercial fraud and to impose the legal penalties against the violators. This is for the protection of consumers. MCI is also keen to provide adequate stock of basic foodstuffs and other commodities in Makkah, Jeddah and Taif warehouses to meet any potential increase in demand.

During Hajj season, MCI undertakes the tasks of supervising, licensing and control over the patrol catering vehicles in the holy places, in coordination with the relevant government agencies.

As part of MCI plan for the current Hajj season 1440, the Ministry is endeavoring to ensure the regularity of the shops selling precious metals and gemstones, as well as verifying their commitment to the relevant Rules & Regulations, including the safety of scales used and the calibration, besides prohibiting offering or selling any gold or silver works in violation.

MCI inspection teams are carrying out inspection tours on the fuel stations to ensure their compliance with the calibration system and gauges, besides verifying the safety of pumps and tanks to ensure the absence of fraud or manipulation. The inspectors also follow up the motor tire workshop on the highways, leading to Makkah and Medina, to ensure the safety of tires and their conformity to the approved standard specifications.

In the course of implementing its plan for the current Hajj season 1440, MCI would like to affirm that all food supply indicators and the monitoring process are running smoothly and safely. MCI urges the consumers and the public to lodge their complaints or observations through MCI Consumer Call Center (1900), or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, or via the Ministry's website.
