H.E. Dr. Al-Qasabi declared, “The establishment of E-Commerce Council comes in line with the global concern. It does consolidate the efforts and create a stimulating environment that may contribute to enhance the National Economy”

His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qassabi, affirmed that the establishment of E-Commerce Council comes in line with the global interest in the e-commerce. This council may consolidate the efforts of all government agencies towards creating a stimulating environment for e-commerce in the Kingdom that may contribute to enhance and promote the National Economy.

H.E. Dr. Al-Qasabi added that the cabinet’s approval on the formation of E-Commerce Council contributes to the growth and the enhancement of the E-Commerce System, which is considered one of the strategic objectives of the National Transformation Program 2020, and it does support the realization of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 by creating an attractive and stimulating environment for investors

H.E. Dr. Al Qasabi confirmed that the said council would contribute to the development of the business sector and promote the coordination efforts, related to e-commerce, among all relevant authorities, also this council may keep pace with the developments in the e-commerce market, it may as well propose policies and legislation for improving the business infrastructure in coordination with all government agencies, besides supervising the initiative for e-commerce stimulating program, as well as verifying the implementation of all Initiatives by the relevant government agencies.

The E-Commerce Council will also coordinate the efforts of all concerned parties, facilitate the e-commerce business and ensure the effective implementation of the proposals and recommendations of the initiatives for enhancing e-commerce program, besides ensuring the consumer’s rights and enhancing the confidence in the online transactions.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, in cooperation with the Digital Transformation Committee, has completed the E-Commerce Strategy. This strategy will be one of the most important tasks of the said council, where it would supervise the implementation of the initiatives, included in such strategy, by the concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, MCI has also completed the preparation of the E-Commerce System and it is being studied by the competent authorities. It aims to support and develop the e-commerce activities, also to enhance confidence and integrity in the e-commerce transactions for increasing its contribution to the National Economy, besides providing the necessary protection for e-commerce transactions against fraud, deception, misleading and manipulation.
