Those Involved were Referred to the Competent Authorities for Imposing the Legal Penalties against them
H.E. the Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Tawfiq Bin Fawzan Al Rabiah has honored this morning at MCI Headquarters in Riyadh two inspectors refused to accept high sums of money as a bribe, offered by two expats in exchange of ignoring commercial fraud and concealment cases in Medina and Al Jouf. The two MCI inspectors have been honored in recognition of their excellence in performing their tasks and duties with honesty and sincerity.
This comes at a time when the Ministry has been implementing a comprehensive inspection campaign to detect and prosecute those involved in violating the provisions of the Anti-Commercial Concealment Law in various regions of the Kingdom.
The details go back when MCI inspection teams shut down a warehouse for cosmetics in Shouran neighborhood, south Medina. The inspectors seized about 97 thousand items of creams, cosmetics and electrical devices not in conformity with the approved standard specifications. During investigation, a case of commercial concealment was suspected. Consequently, the expat in charge of managing the warehouse offered a bribe of large sum of money, in exchange of ignoring the case. Immediately, necessary coordination was effected with the administrative detectives in the region, and the expat was arrested and referred to the competent authorities to complete the legal procedures against him.
Also MCI inspection teams shut down an Establishment engaged in selling housewares and furniture items in Dawmat Al Jandal province in Al Jouf, after suspecting a commercial concealment case. During the preliminary investigation, the involved expat offered a bribe of big sum of money in exchange of ignoring the case, immediately necessary coordinating was effected with the administrative detectives in the region and the convict was arrested and referred to the competent authorities for further legal action.
MCI will not hesitate in imposing the legal penalties on violators and those involved in the commercial fraud and concealment cases, also the Ministry calls on all consumers to lodge their complaints and observations through the toll free number 1900, or through the application of a Commercial Notification.
