Through the intensive inspection campaigns on shops and commercial booths in the Holy Sites, MCI confronted those who were trying for the marketing of more than 9 thousand corrupted, expired, and counterfeit commodities, including large quantities of foodstuffs, meat unfit for the human consumption, as well as adulterated   electrical items and Perfumes, also some items bearing symbols in violation of the Islamic tradition. All the confiscated quantities were destroyed and those who were selling and marketing such items were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.

The seizures included: 3 thousands of expired and anonymous foodstuffs, such as frozen meat, pie and pastries, in addition to more than 3,500 items bearing symbols in violation of the Islamic tradition, more than 1,900 counterfeit electrical items including plugs and connections not complying with the Standards and Specifications, also more than 500 packets of counterfeit Perfumes and Cosmetics. All the confiscated items were destroyed, in addition to recording a number of instant sales violations on shops.

The Ministry pointed out that the ongoing Surveillance Tours had shown that the foodstuffs offered for sale were abundant, at a time when the Inspection Teams inspected stores, shops and booths earlier, to verify the safety of food supplies, all that for the health and safety of the pilgrims.

While members of the Saudi Scout Association participated with the MCI Inspection Teams in the implementation of inspection field tours on the shops in the Holy Sites to verify the validity of foodstuffs and consuming items, as well as verifying the commitment of the price tag, where MCI is assisted annually with a group of the Saudi Scout Association to support the work of its Inspection Teams in the Holy Sites, Makkah and Medina.

The Ministry had announced earlier the confiscation and destruction of about 10 thousand corrupted and adulterated commodities, which were considered a threat to the health and safety of the pilgrims. This is to follow up the implementation of its plan for the pilgrimage season 1435H, which aims at providing the best services to the pilgrims.

The Ministry pointed out, at that time, that the participants in the pilgrimage work had been distributed to field teams, which carried out Inspection Rounds and a comprehensive and preventive survey on all markets, shops and commercial booths in Makkah ( Central  Area ), in the Holy Sites and their access roads, in anticipation of the arrival of the pilgrims and their presence in the Holy Sites (Mona, Arafat, Muzdalifah).

The Ministry emphasizes the continuation of its Surveillance Rounds around the clock to serve the pilgrims. MCI called on all the pilgrims to report any violation to the toll- free number 1900.
