The Ministry of Commerce has participated in the 8th Session of the United Nations Conference to Review Competition and Consumer Protection Policies, which was held on Friday, Rabi Al-Awwal 6, 1442 AH, corresponding to October 23, 2020 AD.
Engineer Omar bin Muhammad Al-Suhaibani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce for Consumer Protection, reviewed the Kingdom's efforts from 2015 until 2020 relevant to adopting and implementing the guidelines for consumer protection that were issued by the United Nations in 1985, and were updated in 2015.
During his speech at the conference, Engineer Al-Suhaibani has referred to the regulations and policies issued by the Kingdom during the last period, in response to the economic developments and changes that affect the consumer, especially those related to e-commerce, privacy, data protection, and easy access to necessary products and services.
In his speech conclusion, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce for Consumer Protection praised the efforts of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, also he thanked the teams of government experts in providing support and contributing to the development and exchange of expertise, indicating the importance of international cooperation to reduce the negative effects of commercial advertisements directed at children, and to combat the electronic fraud and misleading e-advertisements.
Notably, the United Nations Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection is held annually at the United Nations Palace in Geneva with the participation of all member states of the United Nations, but the current 8th session was held via video communication due to Corona pandemic worldwide.
