Those Responsible were Summoned for Investigation and the Case was referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution
MCI had shut down a warehouse in Al Khamrah quarter, south of Jeddah, after detecting seventy thousand fake printer ink cartridges for famous brands, their total value exceeded 18 million riyals. MCI inspectors monitored illegal labors, involved in counterfeiting through using laser printers to print fake labels, and then to be placed on the items. Large quantities were seized, ready to be distributed in the local markets, claiming that they are of high quality. Those involved were summoned by MCI for investigation, and the case was referred to the Bureau of Investigation and public Prosecution for taking the legal procedures.
The details go back when MCI inspectors detected a warehouse involved in importing printer ink from China, and these items do not bear any trade data, except the country of origin, while the illegal labors were carrying out re-filling and storing process, and then placing fake Posters, printed inside the warehouse, bearing well-known trademarks, such as "HP", "Canon ", " Samsung " and “Xerox ". All the fake quantities were confiscated in coordination and cooperation with the joint security campaigns.
Meanwhile, MCI inspectors also detected a site, belonging to the same warehouse, located in Al Sharafiya area in Jeddah. Seals, belonging to government agencies, were detected, as well as cartridges for filling the ink, also forging tools to be used for counterfeiting the trademarks, while the presence of a commercial concealment was suspected in the said site.
The seizures included about 60 thousand printer ink cartridges, not bearing any trade data, 10 thousand counterfeit printer ink for famous brands, in addition to 50 thousand pieces used for packaging the ink, also 40 thousand "cartons" without trade data, besides eight thousand pieces of counterfeit printing paper for "Canon" brand, also 1,200 counterfeit "HP” watermark, and 40 thousand external labels for various trademarks.
This comes within MCI on- going inspection rounds on warehouses and all institutions to ensure their regular works and the absence of fraud and manipulation practices on consumers, and to stop selling and marketing counterfeit and adulterated products.
MCI would like to emphasize that it will not tolerate in imposing the legal penalties on violators and those involved in fraud and counterfeiting, and all that put the health and safety of consumers at risk.
