The Ministry of Commerce seized a violating electronic store for publishing a misleading advertisement that included an image of a “luxury car” and phrases that encourage purchasing, and misled consumers that upon purchasing a group of products (PACKAGE) a “luxury car” would be awaiting them to win.
Immediately, the Ministry obligated the store (specialized in selling oud and perfumes) to remove the violating advertisement, and the owner of the store was referred to the Committee for Examining Violations of the E-Commerce Law, which proved the violation and issued against him a financial fine for violating the provisions of the E-Commerce Law and its Implementing Regulations.
The Ministry emphasizes the importance of adhering to the controls of advertising in e-commerce and not misleading or deceiving consumers, so that the store and its owner will not be subject to financial fines that reach up to one million riyals, or to penalties of blocking and shutting down the website, and banning from practicing the activity.
